Last week I mentioned The Career Base Camp at the end of my blog. I’m going to give you some more information here and guidance on how you can become a Founder Member.

That’s my “Big Why”, the reason I do what I do.

I love working one-to-one with people and in small groups, so the question I was playing with was “my clients tell me that what they learn through coaching with me makes a massive impact to their careers and lives. So I asked myself, how can I get these skills into the hands of more people in need?”.

One thought that came to mind was to be speaking live to bigger audiences, and I’ve had the privilege and excitement of doing this at events at The NEC in Birmingham, Old Trafford football stadium in Manchester and The Leicester Tigers rugby stadium, and to younger people at university career fairs around London. 

It’s wonderful to be interacting with these bigger audiences, but the question still remained, “how can I reach even more people” with these same skills and make an even bigger impact? 

Particularly with the question of when such big gatherings of people will be possible again.

The idea for The Career Base Camp was born

It draws on the analogies I make with mountaineering and expeditions in remote areas. All of these are based, by the way, on expeditions I have undertaken myself.

It goes like this. 

On any expedition you have to pack your rucksack with the kit you need. 

For your career this is your skills and personal qualities. You have to understand how you contribute and you need to appreciate and interact with others for their contribution to the overall success. 

This applies, by the way, whether your career is working for someone else or as a business owner.

• Overcome challenges with ease and understand the skills to keep on track
